Among the runners this year are a record number of 89 from Africa Albida Tourism (AAT), with Casper Mpofu and Jaya Mapfumo leading the pack. These two colleagues are fierce competitors, vying for the coveted Ian Wallace trophy. Mpofu, the five-time fastest AAT runner, is determined to secure his sixth win, despite turning 40 right before the race. His biggest rival, Mapfumo, is confident in his abilities and aims to outpace Mpofu this year.
Both runners have been training rigorously, with Mpofu running daily and Mapfumo focusing on a healthy diet. The event not only promotes fitness but also raises awareness about the endangered vultures in the region. AAT staff will be donning green and white t-shirts with the slogan “Stepping out for the Vultures” to show their support.
